The included USB cable is ridiculously short, just over 3 feet.

Even things like how to install the print cartridges are 'online' only. Like other new products there is virtually no printed documentation included - I guess that's the new 'green' trend. If you plug it into a wall it will be dangling off the floor. The cord that attaches from the 'power brick' to the power supply is quite short. Great printer, lousy set-up and accessoriesįirst what I don't like. If I knew that there was a chance that the night before a paper was due I wouldn't be able to print it, I wouldn't have bought it. However, I should have researched more on this to know about inconvienient defects. It prints, copies, and scans things very quickly. While I can't use the wireless at my college, I can at home, and it's very convienient. Apparently it's a defect of this printer that I wasn't aware of.Īll in all, a good printer. My friend who has the same printer, though, has the same problem from time to time. I've re-started, taken out the cartridges, put them back, turned it on, unplugged it, and have done everything I could think of. Today I recieved a "print cartridge error" message on the screen and it won't let me print anything. The speed is very fast and all of my papers have been printed fast. I like the fact that it can scan and copy things I've used those a bit. Unfortunately, the wireless doesnt work over my college's wifi network. I bought this printer for college and recieved it about a month ago. But I will admit to it being a confusing situation and I didn't come across any clear guidance on how to do that on a C5180.Good printer, but one inconvienient problem

There seems to be a "secret menu" that can be accessed to clear the error memory and resolve this problem when it is a software error. After extensive reading about this problem on other blogs/forums online it appears to me that oftimes this failure notice on different HP printers may be a software problem on the printer, while occasionally it may be an actual hardware failure (like the capacitor situation). I do have a couple of observations, for what they are worth. The capacitor problem discussion is here (if you try to remove the board be very careful.): So I junked the C5180 and bought a new all-in-one. I tried several other things, including the "look at the capacitors" suggestion (found in the thread below), but ended up killing my LCD display (scanner worked, but since I couldn't clear the messages about printing I couldn't see, I wasn't able to get to the printing stage). The next time I turned the machine on I had a repeat of the failure notice. Unfortunately I was too enthusiastic about this fix working for me. This tech was great: he was patient, and simplified the directions. I used a clean wet rag (no fuzz) and wiped the contacts on both the ink cartridge and the inside of the printer where the cartridge is placed. The problem stemmed from the ink cartridge. This is in more detail and if you want to get in touch with me, I will explain through e-mail how I managed to get my printer back working. Using the right arrow, scroll to System configuration Menu. The technician took me through steps starting with the front panel on the printer: press the setup button with the left arrow key held down. Hope and went oneline to the support group for HP. They aren't made as well as the one I own - they looked flimsy. Yesterday, I went out to lookįor a new printer. I did quite a few things that people suggested and still the same message came up. He told me I had to get a new printer since there was a hardwareįailure. Through steps and at the end the same message came up. I did call on the phone and the technician had me go For three days, I went into different sites and found a HP website suggesting how to fix this.

I wasn't able to print on my HP C5180 printer and kept getting a message: Ink system failure.
